I agree that newer players probably don't know who Skelito was, let alone that he created the mods...
This is why we need to have the history of the SDTM posted up in every SDTM support forum that we can find.....
The more the history is documented and reported, the more people can discover about the origins of the mod they have become addicted to...

As I am sure you know, seeing as how you wrote and posted it, we do now have a copy of a history of SDTM. As for finding more of the history, if they care enough about it, they can follow the link you provided to the original SDTM site. As for our naming convention, by calling SDTM BBT or SDTM9, we are identifying it so people know that it is not SDTM8 or a previous version. I personally feel that the saying 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' is right, and that we, by adding to Skelito's mod, and 'improving' it in our own way is our way of recognizing all that he has done for the modding community of halo.

Ok, so if I like the way you play the game, and rename myself everywhere (I'm talking all forums, websites, email name ect...) as §§}Church, would that be received well??
I doubt that it would....you yourself would tell me to stop using your name, possibly even ban me from the §§} servers all together.
Why is it so hard to alter the name of the mod that Compdude has created?
SDTM Xtra §§}1, is a great alternative. It signifies the SDTM origin, while indicating it is a derivative from the original SDTM mod, and also advertises the server as being §§}1.
It is a simple thing and is no too difficult, All bases are covered, while keeping the original SDTM mod clean.
I really do not understand why it is such a problem. You do not lose any identity, you gain a unique name that all your clan members and SS mod followers can easily identify. So as the popularity of your version of the SDTM mod increases, the world will know that it is your mod, and based on one of the most popular mods in Halo history. As well as hosting the original SDTM8 mods (labeled correctly) when you feel like it, the differences will be clear, and no misunderstandings will happen.
With the history of the SDTM posted here in your forum, new members can see the origins of the SDTM mod and it only boosts the potential of the newer mods that Compdude makes. Although if this happens, the history thread needs trimming and all this debate removed. We want the §§} to keep moving forward like it has been, and show that by being an SDTM support forum as Compdude explained, it keeps the original SDTM8 mod separate from the new updated mod that Compdude deserves credit for.
This way everyone is happy, Compdude takes full credit for the mod you guys love and enjoy and no harm will come to the original Skeito created SDTM8 mod....
The way I see it it is a total Win/Win situation...
At least we are making ground here and opening up discussion for settling the whole issue.......

I think there could be more communication between §§} and nc] and other clans. I am sure this would improve relations between us.
As for re-naming of servers, that are not the original mod. They can be posted up and open to the public in all forums so where ever you are the information is there. Identifying the creator and what the differences are. And naming scheme that is approved by all parties and can be identified as a modded SDTM etc...

...With the history of the SDTM posted here in your forum, new members can see the origins of the SDTM mod and it only boosts the potential of the newer mods that Compdude makes. Although if this happens, the history thread needs trimming and all this debate removed. ... I am very appreciative of the original post concerning this history of the SDTM mod. I had already decided that the original history post will need to be separated out or copied out into a new thread and possibly locked so that its informative nature is not hindered by what has happened in these two threads. I could certainly copy and repost it with a footnote reference that you originally posted the information or you could copy and recreate it after we get this thread settled down. It might even be good to lock that thread once it is recreated. I think there could be more communication between §§} and nc] and other clans. I am sure this would improve relations between us. ... Samuel, I agree that more communications between the clans can help to improve relations. It is often harder to dislike or hate somebody once you get to know them better. Then again if they are naturally detestable, then that won't change for the better but in my life, I have found that is the exception rather than the rule. Once lines of communication are open, it becomes possible to work things out, strengthen ties, and to provide mutual support. To do something like that in any kind of substantive way across multiple clans will require some sort of active larger community of clans / SDTM aficionados. Hmmm... wonder where I've heard reference to that before... ;D Although of late, that sort of thing has not been happening as highlighted in Unknown's post, all it takes to start it happening is two groups / clans beginning the effort and staying committed to it. As the Halo gaming platform ages, I expect to see less and less people playing it and consequently the number of people that play the SDTM or modded SDTM games will decrease. Heaven forbid that Halo will not run in Microsoft's next OS release! Towards extending the lifespan of Halo and especially our little slice of it with the SDTM inspired branch of maps, the more cooperation we can have between clans and SDTM aficionados, the longer it will likely be around for all to enjoy.

Skelito has spoken..... Skelito has decided to wash his hands of it all, and move on. Skels thoughts are posted in the SDTM forum, you can see them here: Skelito's last words..posted todaySkel also posted another history lesson..Anyhow, I will back down a notch on the topic of this debate, however I do ask if we can keep the lines of communication open, and work out a fitting way to represent the different mods that are being used... If we can work out something that would suit all parties, that would be awesome...

I for one am glad that he posted that, allowing us to clear the air as to interpretations of his post from when his site was shut down. I know I cant speak for our leaders, but I think that we can figure this out in a civil manner. As for the history lesson, I think it is good that he posted a copy of it on the official SDTM site.

according to skelito's post, we are allowed to 'name them what we want' i also note we changed the name to sdtm9 "[SS1]" does that count as to changing the name to refer to 'our' modded version? just my half a cent >.>

I'm not going to go into my personal thoughts and feelings, not wanting to spark another big discussion, but I think that more respectful discussion is required. We need to hammer out a name that can be used to best show respect to where the mods originated, and where they are headed....

i agree with both sides of the arguement, we should make it more obvious it is 'our' version of skelito's awesome mods, but you cant jsut order us around; so ive got a suggestion that would work: SDTM {§§version1}[SS1] instead of SDTM9 [SS1]. that not only shows it is our mod but still proves it has orginated from the orginal SDTM mod

SDTM {§§version1}[SS1] is a really good compromise......
I like that name a lot, Compdude would that be good for you?

We will work out a naming convention between our staff and server operators. There are character number limits within the GameSpy lobby that we have to consider. We also have to figure out how to distinguish between the various mods we have come up with as there are three of us that have come up with new variants of the BG maps (I have two variants) and I also have two variants of the Timberland map.
We will let everyone know what we come up with.
